What is Housekeeping
Housekeeping is the way you keep your work environment clean. Its the safest way to not cause harm to your self and the equipment your working on. In other words the term housekeeping means cleaning up the environment and work space. It is important for you work space to be clean due to the fact that you simply can't work in a dirty plus clustered environment, if you work in an clustered environment you may face hazards and also problems. for example tripping over wires and problems such as misplacing parts of the item that you are working on.
Requirements of Housekeeping
Some requirements of house keeping are:

- Cleanliness of work environment
- Identifying and resolving hazards
- storage of different tools and equipment
- Signs : your workplace should have signs and emergency signs to let clients and employees know where they can and cannot go or where is the emergency exit. Having signs are very important so that accidents and law suits.
- Cleanliness: The cleanliness of your workshop is the meaning of housekeeping. When your workshop is clean, there aren't any wires and spills on the floors so that there aren't any hazards of slipping and tripping. Now there are certain steps to be taken when cleaning your work environment which include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that all walk ways are clear and cleaning for any types of spills
- Organize all equipment and and tools along with the components and flammable consumables.
- Identifying and resolving hazards: Everyday the workplace become hazardous no matter the type of work that you do, but for technicians as you take up a component its a hazard. The types of hazards that has to do with housekeeping are spilling hazards, tripping hazards and fire hazards. Ways to control hazards are to clear the stairways and emergency exits, for spills try and clean up all spills as they happen. when wiping out the office there should be a "wet floor" sign so that no one can slip and fall. There should be no form of daisy chaining in the office or out of the office due to the fact that this can cause fire, there should also be some form of fire extinguisher in the office.
- Storage of different tools and equipment: Every tool has a place to go and so does every equipment. It is best if you put the same tools in one place so therefore all screwdrivers go to one area and same thing for wires and other tools. Once they are of the same nature they should be place in the same area.
Types of Documentation and Reports Used in Housekeeping
There are various types of documents used in housekeeping for example equipment maintenance manual, accident reports, and equipment log sheet.
- Equipment Maintenance Manual: This document is the equipment manual it comes with the tool that you are using. It contains all the information about the tool and how to maintain and care it. This manual will help you through your time using the tool/equipment.
- Accident Report: The accident report will contain any accidents that has happen on business grounds during business time. It is to be written up by the manager of the business and will the type of accident, how the accident happen, the time of the accident and also who the accident happened to whether it be a client or a member of staff.
- Equipment Log Sheet: This holds the records of everyone who has used an equipment/tool in the office. It is a security measure to ensure that no tool is misplaced or lost.
